Tranexamic Acid
Tranexamic Acid is a cheap and effective medicine to control bleeding after trauma, during surgery, for epistaxis and for heavy vaginal bleeding. The Crash-2 Trial showed significant decrease in all-cause mortality and death by hemorrhage.  The dose for TXA is 1 gm IV immediately and then 1 gm IV over the next 8 hours.  For epistaxis, nasal packing can be soaked in TXA. For menorrhagia, the dose is 1300 mg daily TID for 5 days.

While statistically significant, the decrease in all-cause mortality and death from hemorrhage with TXA in the Crash-2 study was only from 16% to 14.5% and 5.7% to 4.9% respectively.
